Beachfront, three bedrooms.
Description
This is a traditional Filipino thatched cottage on a peaceful sandy beach,
just 15-20 minutes walk from Puerto Galera. The main feature of the cottage
is the wide porch and balcony that steps directly onto Encenada beach. The beach
itself is secluded, has good quality whitesand, and is quiet. There is one twin
bedroom upstairs and two double bedrooms downstairs each with an additional bed.
Each bedroom is fitted with a fan. The town water supply is good, and the power supply
is also from the town, backed up by a standby generator. The kitchen is equipped
with a large refrigerator, a modern gas stove with an oven, and has all the necessary
cooking equipment, crockery and glasses. All beddings are provided. The caretakers
live very near by, and will take care of the cleaning as well as going to the market.
How to get there
First you go to Batangas City by road, which takes about two hours from Manila by car or
aircon coach. Then take a one-hour ferry ride to Puerto Galera. The caretaker will
normally meet you when the ferry arrives. Or just take a jeepney (P200) or a
motorbike-and-sidecar (P10). A private boat can also be organized to take you across
from Batangas directly to your doorstep.
Local features and activities
Guests have rated this beach as one of the best swimming & diving spots in Asia.
The beach is literally on your doorstep and is hard to leave. However, for those interested
in scuba diving, this area is excellent. The coastal town of Sabang, just fifteen minutes ride
away, is home to some of the best dive facilities in Asia. Sabang is also the local nightspot,
with a dozen bars and restaurants. Also, there are plenty of bays and beaches you can visit,
either by road or by boat. The further west you go from the natural harbor of Puerto Galera,
the more secluded the beaches become. Golf and tennis is available at the Ponderosa Golf Course,
just 20 minutes away.
Travel Connections
The transfer from Manila and back costs $20 per person by bus, or from $50 for a
private car each way. The ferry costs $10 per person each way.
